Who We Are

The Malone Family Foundation was founded in 1997 by Dr. John C. Malone, well known communications and media executive and investor, and his family, with one principal objective: to improve access to quality education — particularly at the secondary school level — for gifted students who lack the financial resources to best develop their talents.

Through the Malone Scholars Program, the Foundation provides scholarship endowments to select independent secondary schools, insuring continuing scholarships for top students who are motivated to excel but lack the resources to fund such an education. Schools are selected through a rigorous research process, resulting in the addition of three top-level schools to the Malone Scholars family each spring. Although schools cannot directly apply for grants, the Foundation does accept information about programs or schools of exceptional caliber through this website. Such information will be evaluated during the annual selection process. It should be noted that the Foundation does not award funds directly to individuals.

Through a smaller, auxiliary program, the Foundation is also proud to fund research and development at various gifted education/research centers throughout the country. Recipients include EPGY at Stanford University, PEG at Mary Baldwin College, and the Civic Education Project at the Center for Talent Development (Northwestern University), among others. The Foundation welcomes information about appropriate research projects through this website as well.

The Malone Family Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization. To access its IRS tax-exemption ruling letter plus its annual 990-PF forms in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format, please click the "Next" button.
